BFP Course
I’ve decided to take a photography course.
I checked around on the forums & with the assistance of Google, I have chosen to take the Bureau of Freelance Photographer’s "Freelance Photography Course". It’s a corrspondence course aimed at assisting you into the freelance market & guiding you on ways to improve the chances of selling shots.
I enrolled a couple of weeks ago & received the course through the post this week. It takes the form of two A4 binders with a number of modules. There is not set time limit & modules can be taken at your own pace. You submit work for each module to the course tutor who gives personal feedback.
I’ve only skimmed through the content so far & not actually started on the first module. It should be interesting, not least to see whether I get back the value of the course fee in sales.
You can find out further details of the BFP at their website www.thebfp.co.uk – but beware, it’s not very inspiring in it’s design!

How are you finding the course? I requested some info from them which came yesterday and I’m tempted to go for it.

Hi Rob,
It’s looking interesting but to my shame I’ve not submitted the first assignment yet. Unfortunately, I’ve spent so much of my spare time designing a website (not related to photography) & taking pictures, I’ve not had a chance to sit down & sort out the first assignment (which actually isn’t too taxing to be honest).
Thanks for popping by.
Hi, I’ve just received my binders too! I thought you might be interested in what David Kilpatrick had to say about the BFP course:
As for the courses, another short answer – BFP have a secret. They sell
the courses at a fair price. If you complete the course, you have got
ten times the value of the price you paid. But nine out of ten wannabees
can’t manage to complete the course. They give up. They don’t use the
tutor’s advice or take it seriously. John Wade is the course tutor and
he dreads the day that a decent proportion of course buyers actually
stick with it. He would be working for nothing! So, if you go for it,
and complete it, and use John’s services as offered – fantastic value.
You are being subsidised by all the punters who were not all that
serious to start with and saw freelancing as an easy way to make cash,
or thought they knew it all already, or whatever.

HI
I found this post while looking into the BFP course. It is now 2010 and I wondered if you stuck with it, how you got on and if you have made any/many sales? Is it worth doing?
